How water cooled chillers work

The water cooled chillers used in injection molding machines play a crucial role in the injection molding process. They are primarily used to control the mold temperature, ensuring the quality and efficiency of the produced products. Below is the working principle of water cooled chillers:

  1. Cooling Water Circulation:
    • Water cooled chillers circulate cooling water into the injection mold through a system.
    • The cooling water exits the chiller’s evaporator, travels through the pipes into the mold’s cooling circuit, and then returns to the chiller’s condenser.
  2. Heat Exchange Process:
    • Inside the mold, the cooling water absorbs heat from the mold and the molded parts, thereby lowering the mold temperature.
    • The heated water, carrying the absorbed heat, returns to the chiller.
  3. Refrigerant Circulation:
    • The refrigerant is compressed into a high-temperature, high-pressure gas in the chiller’s compressor.
    • This high-temperature, high-pressure refrigerant gas passes through the condenser, where it exchanges heat with the returning hot water. The refrigerant gas is cooled and condenses into a high-pressure liquid, while the hot water is cooled.
  4. Discharge of Condensed Water:
    • After the heat exchange, the hot water generated in the condenser is discharged through a cooling tower or other cooling equipment, or it is treated and recycled.
  5. Refrigerant Expansion and Evaporation:
    • The high-pressure liquid refrigerant passes through an expansion valve, reducing pressure to become a low-pressure liquid, and enters the evaporator.
    • In the evaporator, the low-pressure liquid refrigerant absorbs heat from the cooling water circuit, evaporates into a low-pressure gas, and returns to the compressor to continue the cycle.
  6. Automatic Control System:
    • Water cooled chillers are equipped with automatic control systems that monitor the temperature of the cooling water through temperature sensors and adjust the cooling capacity as needed to maintain the mold temperature within the set range.

Through this cyclic process, water cooled chillers can continuously and effectively control the temperature of the injection molding machine mold, ensuring the stability and quality of injection-molded products.
